Veolia Transportation, an international company that provides services to mass transit agencies, hired Action Copy to help research and write an entry for an award given by the trade group, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). The submission concerned Veolia’s role in turning around the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) after the calamity of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
In the flooding after the storm, the RTA suffered from devastation to its bus and streetcar fleet, damaged buildings, financial problems, and operational and administrative upheaval. By 2011, the organization boasted a new bus fleet, new streetcar lines under construction, sharp increases in ridership, a completely redesigned website, improved operations, and a strong financial position.
At an October conference that happened to take place in New Orleans, the APTA awarded the RTA the “Special Recognition for Extraordinary Recovery Award.” This award category wasn’t on the original call for awards; we suppose it was created especially for the RTA’s unique circumstances and achievement.
Action Copy would like to congratulate Veolia and the RTA on receiving this recognition from their industry peers.
